ISLAMABAD: The Government of Pakistan has decided to relax visa policy for foreign journalists and media workers stuck in Afghanistan due to the deteriorating security situation.

In a statement today (Friday), Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said this decision has been taken in view of the evolving situation in Afghanistan so that international journalists and media workers, who want to leave Afghanistan, can apply for Pakistan’s visa.
Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said the interior ministry will issue visas to these journalists on priority basis.
He said the Government of Pakistan took this decision to protect journalists and media persons working in Afghanistan.
The policy was relaxed in the wake of reports that the Taliban was closing in on capital Kabul, where most foreign journalists are based.
