Two journalists, Mustafa Thuria, a video stringer for Agence France-Presse, and Hamza Wael Dahdouh, of Al Jazeera, were reported on Sunday to have been killed in Gaza by an Israeli airstrike.

According to health officials in Gaza, Mustafa Thuria, a video stringer for the AFP news agency, and another journalist, Hamza Wael Dahdouh, were killed while travelling in a car. Hamza Al-Dahdouh and Mustafa Thuraya were both freelancers. Al-Dahdouh had undertaken freelance work for Al Jazeera and was the son of the Qatar-based TV station’s chief correspondent in Gaza, Wael Al-Dahdouh. A third freelancer, Hazem Rajab, was wounded. Israel’s military has not commented on the strike.

The Israel-Hamas conflict, ongoing since Oct. 7, has taken a heavy toll on journalists. The Committee to Protect Journalists reported that, as of Saturday, 77 journalists and media workers lost their lives—70 Palestinians, four Israelis, and three Lebanese. The Gaza government’s media office, under Hamas, stated that the recent deaths brought its count of journalists killed by the Israeli offensive to 109.
