Two Cops Killed in Khyber Hand-grenade Explosion

DISTRICT KHYBER: Two police officers were killed while two others were injured when a hand grenade exploded in a bunker in Shahkas Levies centre in Khyber district, officials said on Friday.

Police said that Senior Deputy Superintendent of Police (SDPO) Nawaz Khan and other policemen, including Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Barkatullah, Constable Islam Gul, and Shah Mehmood, were visiting police bunkers when a hand grenade unexpectedly detonated. The incident occurred when a hand grenade mistakenly exploded near a police sepoy.

Two cops, identified as Islam Gul and Shah Mehmood, died on the spot, while SDSP Nawaz Khan and Barkatullah sustained critical injuries.

The injured police were immediately rushed to Hayatabad Medical Complex, where their health conditions were reported as stable.

Later, a funeral prayer for the two slain constables was offered at Shahkas Police Lines Headquarters.

In attendance at the prayer were Inspector General Police (IGP) KP Akhtar Hayat Gandapur, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Said Ishfaq Anwar, DPO Khyber Saleem Abbas Kalachi, Deputy Commissioner Khyber Abdul Nasir, Assistant Commissioner Bara Shahabuddin, police and civil officers, traders, and other attendees.

Meanwhile, unidentified armed men shot dead a local resident named Rahid Khan in the Malikdinkhel area of Bara tehsil on Friday.

Police have registered a case against the unknown killers and initiated an investigation.
