BAJAUR: The president of the Nawagai Bazaar Traders’ Association and his friend were shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Inayat Kalay Bazaar on Tuesday, police and local sources said.
The deceased were identified as Ismail Zargar, president of the Nawagai Bazaar Traders’ Association, and his associate, Ajmal Khan.
Police said the two were present in the market when armed assailants opened fire on them and fled the scene. Both sustained multiple bullet wounds and were taken to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Khar, where doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.
Ismail Zargar was the only brother of 11 sisters. For a family with 11 sisters, an only brother is not just a brother but a source of support and hope for the entire household.
A Bajaur police spokesperson said a heavy contingent of police reached the site shortly after the attack and cordoned off the area. Police also collected evidence from the crime scene.
Police have launched a search operation in the surrounding areas to trace and arrest the attackers, while an investigation into the incident is underway.
No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
