KHYBER: Unknown persons have kidnapped a local resident, identified as trader Waseem Afridi, from the Walikhel area of Landikotal and shifted him to an undisclosed location, police sources said on Wednesday.
Police officials said they have launched a search operation in the locality and put security on high alert. They said a formal FIR has been registered at Landikotal Police Station.
SHO Nafees Afridi said a geofencing team has obtained Call Detail Records (CDRs) of mobile phones active in the area, while several people have been summoned and questioned as part of the investigation.
Circle DSP Lal Jan Afridi and Landikotal SHO Nafees Afridi, along with a heavy contingent of police personnel, visited the area and searched. They also met the abducted trader’s family and discussed the case.
SHO Nafees Afridi said police had launched an investigation using modern scientific methods and were making all-out efforts to ensure the safe recovery of Waseem Afridi.
The incident has raised concerns among residents amid growing militancy and kidnapping incidents in the area. About a month ago, another elderly resident, Zareef Shinwari, was also abducted and released after nearly a month in captivity.
Residents have expressed concern over the deteriorating security situation and called for effective measures to prevent further abductions and ensure the safety of local people.
