ISLAMABAD: PTI supporters protested nationwide on Tuesday, responding to the party’s call to rally against the arrest of Imran Khan by Rangers personnel at the Islamabad Judicial Complex.
Pakistan’s anti-graft, National Accountability Bureau(NAB) on Tuesday arrested former prime minister Imran Khan as he appeared in a court in the capital, Islamabad, to face charges in multiple graft cases.
Following the arrest Thousands of Khan’s supporters took to the streets on Tuesday in the capital Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and other cities to protest against his arrest.
A senior leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, Shireen Mazari, reported to the media that one of the party’s workers was killed in Quetta. Meanwhile, in Islamabad, hundreds of PTI supporters obstructed the main Kashmir Highway, leading to the suspension of traffic on both sides of the road.
Following reports of Imran Khan’s arrest, street protests erupted across the country and arrests were made. The situation has been escalating rapidly, with supporters of Khan expressing significant anger.
The Islamabad police’s Inspector General has stated that anyone who participates in protests will be arrested. Consequently, police have arrested PTI leaders and dozens of PTI supporters following clashes between protesters and law enforcement officers at various locations in the city.
