LANDIKOTAL: Peshawar Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Dr Mian Saeed has suspended 16 Khyber police personnel, including Landikotal SHO Adnan Afridi and ordered them to report to the police lines in Khyber following multiple complaints against them.
According to an official notification, issued on Wednesday, all the suspended police officers and personnel have been directed to report to the police lines. However, the notification does not specify the reasons for their suspension.
Police sources said the CCPO had received multiple complaints against the 16 personnel deployed at Landikotal, Michni check post and Landikotal police station.
The suspension of 16 police personnel, including a SHO, in a single day is an unusual development in Khyber district. The move has also sparked mixed reactions on social media.
Some people have linked the action to the recent abduction of businessman Muhammad Zareef Shinwari, who was held for 33 days, while others believe that multiple complaints lodged against the SHO and other police officials with senior officers were the reason behind the strict action by CCPO Peshawar.
The CCPO office was contacted for comments, but no response was received.
Police sources said the CCPO was preparing charge sheets against all 16 suspended personnel, after which it would initiate departmental inquiries against them.
Muhammad Zareef Shinwari, an elderly businessman from Landikotal, was abducted in broad daylight on August 6. The kidnappers reportedly demanded $300,000 for his release. He was recovered 33 days later in a joint operation by police and Frontier Corps personnel.
