TORKHAM: Rescue workers on Saturday retrieved 3 more dead bodies from the rubble of the Tuesday landslide near Torkham border, sources said
The number of fatalities increased to eight with the recovery of another body, and rescuers and the relatives of the carriers, whose cars were crushed by enormous rocks and mud, suspected that at least five more people were still buried under the debris. Afghan citizens made up the entirety of the Etigh dead.
Initially, three transporters were reported dead and several others injured in Tuesday’s incident during which 15 Afghanistan-bound container-mounted trailers were hit by a landslide.
Cement, sugar, tyres and other items worth millions of rupees were severely destroyed in the Torkham landslip, which was the first of its kind in Torkham in recent memory.
