LANDIKOTAL: Journalists of Landikotal press club and political party leaders on Friday staged a protest demonstration against the arrest of a Bara-based journalist Khadim Khan Afridi.

A number of civil society members including Khudaee Khidmatgar district Khyber Salar Fazal Rehman Afridi, Jamat-e-Islami leader Arshad Ali Afridi and traders attended the protest.

They chanted slogans against the Counter-Terrorism Department(CTD). They were holding banners with demands for the release of Khadim Khan Afridi who was picked up by CTD police from Bara a week ago. Speakers said picking up a journalist was to silence the voice they raise for the general public.

They said that arrest of journalists was totally against the freedom of the press and expression right. Adding that not only a journalist was harassed but the whole journalist community was tried to put under pressure.

Siyasi Ittihad and civil society members termed the arrest as a punishment for reporting. They demanded the forthwith release of the arrested journalist and said that they would be on the roads with journalists’ organizations to agitate against the illegal activities of CTD in the tribal districts. The protesters also marched from the press club building to Bacha Khan Chow and dispersed peacefully.
