LANDIKOTAL: The elders during a meet the press program at Landikotal press club on Tuesday have demanded the interior ministry and customs department for relaxation to the local traders to import sacrificial animals from Afghanistan via the Torkham border.

Talking on the occasion, Malak Masal Khan Shinwari, Malak Abdur Razzaq Afridi, Haji Dadeen Shinwari, Haji Muqtadir Shah Afridi, and Haji Shakir Afridi said that government authorities should give relaxation to the local traders to import sacrificial animals from Afghanistan on the eve of the Eid-ul-Adha.

Malak Haji Masal Khan Shinwari said that export and import trade was related to the customs department and FBR department and they should resolve this issue on a priority basis.

“Export and Import trade with Afghanistan is already suffered due to the bad policies of the government”.  The elders criticized and added that authorities were depriving the locals not to perform the Islamic ritual of ‘Eid-ul-Adha’.

Islamic festival ‘Eid-ul-Adha’ is near and the authorities should be prepared earlier to allow the import of sacrificial animals from Afghanistan. Local elders stated.

Afghanistan is self-sufficient in having more sacrificial animals like male sheep and it was a great opportunity for the traders of Afghanistan to export their male sheep to Pakistan via Torkham. An Elder said.

Haji Dadin Shinwari said that hundreds of locals tribesmen were on jobs with the hotel owners in district Khyber and Landikotal and the hotel business was badly affected due to the ban on the import of lambs from Afghanistan.

The import of sacrificial animals would give million rupees economic benefit to the national exchequer. The elders stated and demanded that permission should be given to traders to import male sheep from Afghanistan that the locals could celebrate the Islamic festival.
