Five killed in Landikotal explosion

LANDIKOTAL: Five persons including a woman and children were killed and ten others injured when an explosion rocked a home in the Tatara area of Landikotal in district Khyber, police said on Tuesday.

Police said the explosion took place inside a home where children were playing with an unexploded Improvised explosive device.
As the explosion took place residents and Rescue-1122 workers rushed to the site and retrieved dead and injured, sources said.
An eyewitness told Fata Voice that children had brought a landmine type of device from nearby hills and playing with it. He said a powerful explosion rocked the home when children hit the explosive device with a stone.
Five persons, including a fifty-year-old woman and four other children including girls, were killed on the spot while ten others were seriously injured, police said. The house was also severely damaged in the blast.

Landikotal police station officer Ayaz Khan Shinwari said that the entire Tatara locality had been cordoned off and the security forces have started their investigative activities. He said injured persons were rushed to the district headquarters hospital wherefrom six were referred to the hospital in Peshawar.

Those killed were identified as Saliman,15, Yasmeen Bibi,5, Farman,14, Shameem Bibi,50, and Iqtidar,6.

It may be mentioned here that police had recovered several landmines and other explosive devices a few days ago in district Khyber from an abandoned cave which were defused.
