LOWER KURRAM: Six members of the same family, including four women, a girl and a man, were injured when an alleged mortar shell struck their house in the Sarha Ghorga area of Lower Kurram, police and local sources said on Friday.
The injured were initially taken by local residents to the Basic Health Unit (BHU) Mandori for medical treatment as emergency and rescue services were reportedly unavailable in the remote area.
The victims were identified as Ayaz, his wife Gul Pariza, his mother Gul Meena, his sister-in-law Niaz Meena, and his nieces Yasra and Sana.
Residents said they faced serious difficulties in transporting the injured to the health facility due to the absence of rescue and emergency services. They said local people used their own vehicles to shift the victims to the BHU.
Meanwhile, residents of Vatizai have announced a sit-in at Dadkamar Chowk at 9 am on Saturday to protest the incident.
The protesters said they would raise their voice with the government for the restoration of peace and order in the area and demand effective measures for the protection of civilians.
The incident has also renewed concerns among residents over the security situation and the lack of emergency medical and rescue facilities in remote parts of Lower Kurram.
