Traders Want Swift Clearance Process In Torkham

TORKHAM: A joint meeting of government departments, traders and customs agents union was held at the Torkham customs compound and discussed various issues including liaison and cooperation to smoothly run the transportation from and to Afghanistan.

Additional Collector of Customs Muhammad Rizwan chaired the meeting which was attended by officials of the Federal Investigation Agency(FIA), police, anti-narcotics, district administration and Torkham customs clearance agents.

The meeting was brief about the constraints and challenges being faced due to various reasons.
Customs officials said trade activities were severely affected due to the poor coordination and lack of communication between the traders and authorities.
Transporters’ Union president Azeemullah explained the problems being faced by truckers and traders.

A detailed discussion was held regarding the problems and difficulties faced by the traders and truckers. They said the slow documentation process was one of the main hurdles that always delayed transportation from and to Afghanistan.

Customs and other officials heard the participants and vowed to address their problems one by one

The meeting participants also agreed to take practical steps to speed up customs clearance and increase bilateral trade including controlling the rush of vehicles.
