LANDIKOTAL: Unknown gunmen shot dead a peace committee head in Achini Khor in Sarband police locality and fled the scene, sources said on Saturday.

The sources said that one Mir Alam Khan Afridi was on his way to Bara when unknown motorcyclists opened indiscriminate firing on his car and critically injured him. The assailants fled the scene after committing the heinous crime. The injured person was rushed to the hospital but could not be survived and breathed his last on the way to the hospital. Police have registered a case against the killers and started an investigation.

It is said that the ill-fated Mir Alam was the Ameer of Bara peace committee locally known as the Amn committee and had played an active role in peace restoration. Local residents told this scribe by phone that Mir Alam wanted peace in the area and had played a major role in peace restoration in Bara tehsil of the Khyber tribal district. He had also raised Lashkar(volunteer guards)against the Lashkar-e-Islam militants group led by Mangal Bagh in Khyber tribal district.

Sources said Mir Alam had escaped to Dubai when Mangal Bagha(LI) had controlled Bara before the major military operations carried out by the Pakistan army against all kinds of anti-state elements in Khyber Agency. A few years ago Mir Alam had also luckily survived an explosion that took place near his property dealing office in Peshawar. He recently returned and started work as a peacekeeper in his area.

It may be added here that target killings and attacks by different terrorist groups were rising in tribal areas near the border in the past few months in tribal areas and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Two journalists and many other citizens have lost their lives in the past few months in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan.
