SADDA: Pakistani security forces, in a joint operation with the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), killed two high-profile terrorists in the Tri Mangal area of Kurram district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials confirmed on Monday.
According to credible security sources, the slain militants were responsible for a deadly attack on educators earlier this year in which five schoolteachers were shot dead. Authorities had placed a bounty of PKR 5 million (approx. USD 18,000) on each of the suspects, both of whom were listed as most-wanted.
The intelligence-driven raid was carried out in the early hours of the morning, targeting a compound believed to be a hideout for members of a banned militant outfit. During the operation, one local civilian sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment. His condition is said to be stable.
Security officials revealed that five individuals had been identified as prime suspects in the teachers’ killings, and operations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining culprits.
This latest counter-terrorism success comes amid a recent uptick in targeted violence in Pakistan’s tribal border regions, prompting heightened security measures and intelligence coordination.
The Pakistani government and military have reiterated their commitment to eradicating extremism from the region and ensuring justice for victims of terrorism.
