PESHAWAR: A cop martyred when terrorists attacked the polio post-campaign assessment team in the limits of Raghzai police station in the Manra area of Tehsil Birmal in South Waziristan Lower district on Friday.
Station House Officer(SHO) Zabihullah Wazir told journalists that the post-polio campaign assessment/monitoring team was visiting the Manra area.
He said unknown gunmen opened indiscriminate gunfire on the health officials, leaving the police constable, escorting the polio officials martyred on the spot.
As the incident happened police rushed to the site and cordoned off the area and started the search operation in the locality. The polio monitoring team members were luckily safe in the firing incident.
The polio staff was on post-polio campaign assessment after a three-day anti-polio campaign ended on Thursday.
