PESHAWAR: The Excise Police have arrested a suspected drug trafficker and seized 32.4 kilogrammes of charas during an operation on Bara Road in Peshawar, officials said.

According to officials, the operation was carried out by the Peshawar Excise Police Station following a tip-off about the suspected smuggling of narcotics.

The officials said they signalled a suspicious car, bearing registration number DCF 696, to stop. However, the driver allegedly sped away in an attempt to evade arrest, prompting the police to pursue the vehicle.

During the chase, the driver lost control of the car due to excessive speed and crashed into a drain under construction, sustaining an injury to his right foot, they added.

The suspect received initial medical treatment before being taken into custody. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 32,400 grammes of charas, according to the officials.

The arrested man was identified as Rizwan, son of Zakirullah, a resident of Palosai Atozai in Peshawar district.

A case has been registered against the suspect at the Peshawar Excise Police Station, while further investigation is underway.

The operation was part of the provincial government’s ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking under its zero-tolerance policy against narcotics, officials said.
