Indian medicines, cigarettes seized at Torkham border

LANDIKOTAL: District administration conducted a major search operation at Torkham Border town and seized millions worth of banned foreign goods including Indian medicines, cigarettes and Paan from a warehouse located in Bacha Mena village adjacent to the Torkham border, officials said on Friday.

Assistant Commissioner of Landikotal Adnan Mumtaz and tehsildar Taimur Afridi said that a joint team of Frontier Crops (North) and civil administration conducted a search operation and raided various godowns in Bacha Mena. They said that the raids were conducted late Thursday night.

The officials said during the operation they recovered over 12,000 packs of illegal foreign cigarettes, 272 packs of Indian medicines, Paan and other banned items worth millions of rupees.

They said the seized items were intended to be transported from Torkham Border to Peshawar and other districts in Pakistan.

Assistant commissioner of Landikotal Adnan Mumtaz said the district administration would continue to carry out raids in Torkham while directing police to search at joint checkpoints on the Torkham-Landikotal road against smuggling especially sugar and fertilizers smuggling to Afghanistan.
