PESHAWAR (Monitoring Desk): Canadian security agencies have been actively pursuing “credible allegations” of a potential link between Indian government agents and the murder of a Sikh leader in British Columbia in June, said PM Justin Trudeau on Monday.

Speaking to the Parliament Justin Trudeau said that it was unacceptable for Canada to kill a Canadian Citizen on the soil of Canada. He said he told PM Modi to cooperate with Canada to reach the killers of a Canadian citizen.

He said Canadian security agencies were using efforts to reach the hands behind the killing of Hardeep Singh, a Canadian citizen in Canada.

“It was the top priority of Canadian security agencies to ensure the security of every citizen”, said Justin Trudeau.
He pledged to bring the perpetrators to justice who committed the crime.

He said Canada has declared deep concern to the top intelligence and security officials of India.
The Canadian PM said last week at the G-20 summit he personally and directly brought the incident to PM Modi notice.

“Any involvement of any foreign government in the killing of a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil is an unacceptable violation of our sovereignty.” PM reiterated.

In another move, Canadian Justin Trudeau foreign minister said the government had expelled a diplomat who was “the chief of India’s intelligence agency” in Canada.

“Canada has declared its deep concerns to the top intelligence and security officials of the Indian government,” Trudeau said in an emergency statement to the House of Commons.

Hardeep Singh Nijjar was gunned down in his truck on June 18, 2023, by two masked men in front of a Sikh temple in Surrey, British Columbia Canada.
The 45-year-old, who migrated to Canada in the 1990s, was a strong advocate for the Khalistan movement, which calls for a separate homeland for the ethnoreligious Sikh community
At the height of an insurgency in the 1980s and 1990s, tens of thousands were killed amid armed violence between Khalistan supporters and the Indian army.
