PESHAWAR: Independence Day celebrations at cadet college Wana and the FC camp turned into scenes of fear and chaos when armed militants fired three rockets. Following the attack, intense gunfire erupted between militants and security forces near the Farhad FC camp, resulting in the reported death of a security personnel.
On the same day, in the Azam Warsak area of Birmal tehsil, an exchange of fire between militants and security forces left two passersby critically injured. Also, it claimed the life of a local man identified as Abdul Samad. Among the injured was Raz Muhammad Adakhel.
Security forces swiftly cordoned off the area with armoured vehicles and foot patrols, further heightening public anxiety.
Meanwhile, in Upper Waziristan’s Kaniguram Bazaar, unidentified gunmen shot dead Liaqat Barki, also known as Pir Sahib, on the spot.
Eyewitnesses said that after the rocket attack, children, women and civilians participating in the celebrations fled in panic to save their lives.
With Section 144 already in effect, most residents had been confined to their homes.
In Birmal tehsil, armed militants have set up barricades on most entry and exit points, creating an acute shortage of food and essential supplies. What was meant to be a day of joy once again turned into mourning for the tribal people.
