Tribes unite against social evils

PESHAWAR: A meeting of the Regi Lalma Qaumi Ittehad committee was held on Friday in Nekabad village in Regi Lalma and stressed the need to work jointly against social evils and discourage illegal practices that prevail.

The meeting was chaired by Haji Shahin Shah Afridi, who said that it was their moral and constitutional duty to unite and cooperate with police and law enforcement agencies to curb un-Islamic and unlawful activities in the area.

The meeting was told that due to the growing Ice drug culture among youth, they must be vigilant to fight against anti-social elements. They said a mechanism must be established to identify black sheep who are involved in drug trafficking.

Haji Shahenshah Afridi sought members’ opinions on issues including law and order, the establishment of a central office and its formal inauguration. Former town member Asad Shinwari emphasized the need for the immediate establishment of the committee’s central office.

Haji Zarif stressed the importance of national unity, urging all tribes to stand by each other in times of difficulty as a sign of solidarity. Haji Gul Ameen Mohmand suggested holding committee meetings in every hujra of Regi Lalma to increase awareness of the unity initiative.

Haji Abdul Rehman Afridi noted that Regi Lalma represents unity and plays a vital role in maintaining harmony and brotherhood in society. He added that the purpose of the Ittehad Committee is to ensure the safety of people and property and to collaborate with government institutions.

Former town member Asad Shinwari called for collective efforts to bring developmental projects to the area by engaging with elected representatives and government bodies. He also stressed resolving local disputes amicably.

Haji Shahenshah Afridi recommended wall-chalking as a tool to promote awareness about the committee’s mission. Meewah Khan Afridi suggested that representatives from all participating tribes, including Shinwari, Afridi, Bajauri, Mohmand, and Regi, collect donations from their respective communities to support the committee’s operations.

Haji Naseem Afridi highlighted that cooperation would further strengthen the unity initiative.

Others who attended the meeting included Haji Fazal Dad, Haji Akbar Mama, Haji Salik Shah, Haji Surat Shah, Rehman Gul Nazim, and several other community members.
