JAMRUD: For the past 22 days, the Pak-Afghan highway in the Bhagyari area of Jamrud tehsil has been blocked by a sit-in protest, causing severe disruptions for commuters and traders.

The protest, organized by the Koki Khel tribe Dharna Committee, is being led by Koki Khel internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Rajgal and Tirah Valley, who are demanding their right to return home.

The ongoing protest has left hundreds of trucks stranded, disrupting the supply chain and causing significant inconvenience to the residents of Tehsil Landikotal.

“This is the first time the Pak-Afghan highway has been closed for such an extended period due to a protest. Hundreds of trucks carrying goods are stuck, causing immense hardship for drivers.

The primary demand of the protestors is the return of families displaced from the Tirah Valley. According to the Dharna Committee, out of 30,000 displaced families, 6,000 to 7,000 are still waiting to go back to their homes.

Despite ongoing discussions between the Dharna Committee and local authorities, no resolution has been reached, leaving the displaced families in continued uncertainty.
