Narcotics Smuggling Bid Foils At Torkham

TORKHAM: Customs Enforcement staff on Wednesday followed a bid to smuggle Ice drugs (crystal methamphetamine)and Hashish and arrested the three peddlers at Torkham border, officials said.

Customs official Wajid told Fata Voice that working on a tip-off and on the directions of Chief Collector Custom Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Saeed Akram and Collector Custom Enforcement Khuaja Khurram Naeem they constituted a led by additional Collector Custom Zakir Muhammad and Deputy Collector Ali Hasan.

He said they stopped three persons from Afghanistan identified as Abid Mirchakhel and Nadir Shinwari, residents of Ningrahar and Javid Khan, a Pakistani national at Zero Point. He said they searched their bodies and luggage and recovered one kilogram of Ice drugs and 500 Gram of Hashish from their possessions. The drugs were concealed in a thermos. He said the arrested persons and seized narcotics were shifted to Customs House in Peshawar and the case has been registered against them.

Collector customs enforcement Khuaja Khurram Naeem said that they had issued strict directives to customs staff in Torkham to keep a vigilant eye on the passengers’ luggage and vehicles to discourage contraband items smuggling from Afghanistan. He said the worth of the seized drugs is 8.3 million in the open market.

It may be added here that Torkham Customs have seized 126.6m rupees contraband items in the past months.
