MNA Ali Wazir Arrested Again in South Waziristan

PESHAWAR: Ali Wazir, a prominent leader of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) and Member of the National Assembly representing South Waziristan, has been taken into custody. Reports indicate that he was apprehended at the Damdel checkpoint during a journey with his associates towards Miranshah.

According to sources, Ali Wazir and other PTM leaders were wanted by the police for making statements critical of institutions. Following his arrest, he was taken to Miranshah, the capital of North Waziristan.
Ali Wazir was en route to North Waziristan to participate in a protest against the recent apprehension of PTM activists. Ali Wazir, Manzoor Pashteen, and several others are currently under investigation by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for their remarks criticizing institutions. sources added
Ali Wazir, an MNA from South Waziristan, was released on February 14 from the Karachi Central Jail after being behind bars for more than two years.
He was arrested in Peshawar on December 16, 2020, in connection with a case lodged against him at Karachi’s Sohrab Goth Police Station on charges of sedition for delivering hate speeches against state institutions.
He was later arrested in more cases lodged on similar charges in the port city and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
