BARA, Khyber District: A police officer was martyred after unidentified armed assailants opened fire on him in the Kalinga Bypass area of Bara tehsil in Khyber District on Friday, according to police sources.
The deceased officer was identified as Akakhel Shah, son of Fazal Karim, who belonged to the Akakhel tribe.
Police said the attackers allegedly targeted the officer in what appears to be a targeted killing. As a result of the firing, the officer died on the spot.
Soon after the incident, police and security personnel reached the area, cordoned off the crime scene, and launched a search operation to trace the attackers.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident, while further details are awaited.
