Arms seized at Torkham border

PAKISTAN: The Pakistan Customs Authorities at the Torkham border crossing foiled a bid to smuggle arms from Afghanistan and arrested the truck driver, officials said on Sunday.

Additional collector custom Torkham Muhammad Tayyab told media that acting on a tip-off they started searching vehicles coming from the Afghanistan side.

He said they stopped a coal-loaded truck(KAB-21488) as it entered Pakistan and searched. He said they recovered five US-made pistols, one Turkey-made pistol and thousands of bullets rounds from its hidden cavities.
Tayyab said the weapons learned to be used in target killing attempts in the country. He said the driver identified as Khial Muhammad resident of Afghanistan was arrested and interrogation started with him.

The official said weapons smuggling from Afghanistan was increasing day by day which was a deep concern for Pakistani authorities. He said customs officials have been strictly directed to keep watch on the smuggling of contrabands from Afghanistan.
It may be mentioned here that a day before customs officials foiled arms smuggling from Afghanistan and took the truck into their custody.
