TORKHAM: Pakistan customs appraisement officials on Friday seized millions of rupees of Indian-made goods at the Torkham border, officials said.
Custom Superintendent Mujahid Khan and Inspector Muhammad Ayaz Khan told the media that acting on a tip-off they stopped two empty trucks(C-16199) and (E-7273) coming from Afghanistan. He said they recovered 24320 packs of betels, 21400,48 kilograms of steel-made nails,4800 packets of fireworks items and other goods from the hidden cavities of the trucks.
The official said the worth of the seized items in the open market was around 11 million rupees.
Mujahid said on the directions of the customs appraisement collector in Peshawar they have tightened the checking searching mechanism to curb all kinds of smuggling from Afghanistan. He said the drivers and trucks have been challenged and started an investigation against them.
Those arrested were identified as Muhammad Qasim and Mian Abdullah Jan.
