Landi Kotal, Khyber District: At least five people, including one woman and one child, were killed after torrential rains triggered devastating flash floods across Landi Kotal in Khyber District. Several others were injured as floodwaters swept away vehicles and caused widespread destruction.

According to hospital and police sources, two young men, Abuzar, son of Imran, and Saifullah, son of Irfan, both residents of Sado Khel, were swept away by raging floodwaters. Their bodies were later recovered and shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Landi Kotal.

In another tragic incident, a vehicle carrying an Afghan family returning to Afghanistan was caught in a flash flood at Sultan Khel on the Pak-Afghan Highway. Rescue officials recovered the bodies of one woman and one child after an intensive search operation.

Besides the loss of life, the torrential rains caused significant property damage. Floodwaters damaged several houses, while rooms in a number of homes collapsed due to the heavy downpour. Residents also reported damage to roads and other infrastructure in the affected areas.

Rescue 1122 teams, assisted by local volunteers, continued search and relief operations in flood-hit areas. The victims’ bodies were shifted to the relevant authorities after legal formalities.

Authorities have appealed to the public to stay away from rivers, streams, and flood-prone areas during heavy rains, warning that rapidly rising water levels pose a serious threat to life and property.
