LANDIKOTAL: Terrorists blew up the Ziaray police check post located along the Pak-Afghan Highway late Thursday night using explosives, followed by intense gunfire before fleeing the scene, police said on Friday.
Khyber Police spokesperson said the explosion caused severe damage to the boundary wall, while rooms of the check post were completely razed to the ground.
Fortunately, no loss of life was reported as the post was not manned at night. The spokesperson clarified that the Ziaray check post functions as a daytime search point, with no police personnel stationed there after dark.
Following the blast, heavy contingents of police and security forces reached the site, cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. Preliminary investigations confirmed the use of explosive material in the attack. A bomb disposal squad was also called to examine the nature of the explosion.
This latest incident is part of a surge in militant attacks across the Khyber district in recent weeks. Earlier this month, unidentified assailants had targeted the same police check post with an IED
While in the Tirah valley, militants opened fire on a security checkpoint, triggering a brief exchange of gunfire.
Residents have expressed growing concern over the increasing militant activities in Khyber district, calling for stronger security measures and intelligence-based operations to curb the renewed wave of terrorism along the tribal belt.
