LANDIKOTAL: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Landikotal chapter held its monthly meeting in which they raised the demand for Construction of bridges on the Jamrud-Landikotal highway to protect the lives and properties of citizens during torrential rain and flash floods that have taken several human lives and washed away a large number of vehicles so far.

Speaking on the occasion, JI Landikotal Ameer Murad Hussain Afridi provided details about the pressing issues faced by residents and outlined the party’s ongoing efforts and plans to resolve them.

A resolution was unanimously passed demanding the urgent construction of bridges on the Pak-Afghan Highway from Jamrud to Landikotal at eight floodways on the road.
The resolution emphasized that whenever it rains, flash floods disrupt traffic, leaving passengers, patients and students stranded for hours. The floods also cause significant financial losses as vehicles, including trucks, are frequently swept away due to the absence of proper bridges.

The resolution highlighted that the Pak-Afghan Highway, from Jamrud to Landikotal, remains vulnerable to seasonal flash floods every year. The lack of bridges results in trucks and other vehicles being washed away whenever flash floods occur, causing immense damage.

In addition, traffic flow suffers for days due to torrential rains and flooding, further impacting trade and mobility along this vital route.

Despite the highway being a critical trade and travel corridor operating around the clock between Pakistan, Afghanistan and Central Asian republics, even minor rainfall makes it impassable.
Jamaat-e-Islami urged the National Highway Authority (NHA) to prepare and implement a comprehensive plan to construct at least eight bridges at key points along the highway.

The party pledged to continue its campaign until the construction of these essential bridges is completed and the hardships of the local population are permanently addressed.
