The Kurram District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, known for its stunning natural beauty and historical significance, is now a valley marred by conflict. Once a tranquil region admired by Mughal emperors, it is now the epicentre of violent sectarian clashes between Sunni and Shia communities.
Home to Pashtun tribes such as Turi, Bangash, Mangal, Orakzai, Wazir, Mamozai, Muqbil, Mandan(Banusi and Zazai, Kurram has suffered immense losses due to recurring violence. Heavy weaponry, including rockets and missiles, has destroyed homes, displaced families, and decimated livelihoods. The persistent bloodshed has turned this fertile and populated region into a hotspot of instability, with little relief in sight.
To restore peace, the government must act decisively. Deploying additional security forces, confiscating illegal weapons, and ensuring accountability for perpetrators are immediate priorities. Simultaneously, engaging community leaders and neutral mediators can foster dialogue and build trust between warring factions.
Long-term stability will require investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic development to address the underlying grievances of the region’s people. Promoting religious harmony and tolerance through educational programs is essential to dismantle sectarian divides.
Kurram’s plight demands urgent attention. The valley’s people deserve peace, justice, and a chance to rebuild their lives away from the shadows of violence. It is time for action before this beautiful region is further consumed by flames.
Tragic incident that happened
November 22: At least 42 people, including a woman and child, were killed in an attack on passenger vehicles in the OChat area of Kurram.
November 23: The opposing tribe destroyed Bhghan village and Bhgan Bazaar in Kurram during a violent attack.
