BARA: The residents, including elders and youth, on Wednesday held a grand jirga in Bar Qambarkhel of Maidan area in Tirah valley and demanded that the militants evacuate from their region, sources said.
The Jirga asked the militant groups operating in Tirah valley to leave the area, particularly in Bar Qambarkhel.
The jirga members have placed the Holy Quran before the leadership of the militant groups and strongly demanded that they immediately vacate their area.
A large number of elders, religious scholars, youth and other residents participated in this important grand jirga.
The speakers said that maintaining peace and order in the Tirah valley is everyone’s responsibility, and the presence of any armed group is a threat to the peace and development of the area.
The local elders made it clear that militancy had pushed the area towards backwardness and now silence was not possible.
The residents said that they had already suffered and everything they lost in the 2013 militancy wave.
“Now, we need peace, health, education and development work in the area,” the elders said.
The speakers urged, if the militants do not leave the area, they would be taken further steps for peace.
