PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to rename the historic Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar in honour of the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan.

According to official sources, KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has approved the renaming, and the provincial sports ministry has prepared a summary for the change. The proposal is expected to be presented at the upcoming cabinet meeting on Friday for final approval.

A spokesperson for the KP government confirmed that renovation and beautification efforts at the stadium are also underway. “With the provincial government’s approval, significant upgrades are being carried out to enhance the stadium’s infrastructure,” the spokesperson stated.

Arbab Niaz Stadium, originally named after the late Arbab Niaz, a former mayor of Peshawar and a federal minister, is one of Pakistan’s key cricket venues. The renaming decision has sparked debate, with PTI supporters viewing it as a tribute to Imran Khan’s legacy, while others emphasize preserving historical names.

Further announcements regarding the renaming ceremony and renovation completion are expected soon.
