LANDIKOTAL: Jamat-e-Islami senior leader and former senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan on Sunday said that it was the state’s responsibility to protect citizens particularly journalists who were passing through a hard phase of life in Pakistan.

A former senator who was speaking to journalists here in Landikotal said that it was the failure of law enforcement agencies that they could not arrest the killers of Khalil Jibran Afridi who was brutally killed on June 18. He said article-9 of the constitution of Pakistan protects every citizen’s life and property.

Mushtaq Ahmad Khan said journalists in Pakistan particularly in merged districts were severely in danger and exposed to militants. He said their protest would continue till the arrest of Khalil Jibran’s Killers.

Former senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan assured the sit-in organizers and journalists that his party support would continue with them and would raise voices for the protection of journalists in Landikotal. Other journalists in Landikotal were also threatened with death by terrorists whose lives must be protected.

The Jamat-e-Islami leader urged the Supreme Court of Pakistan to take sue-moto against the Khalil Jibran Afridi brutal murder and bring the culprits to justice.

He also demanded judicial inquiry on the journalist’s murder.

“We will not let anyone impose dollar war again on the Pashtun soil who are already suffering from militancy and military operations”, said Mushtaq Ahmad Khan.

Meanwhile, journalists and residents continued their sit-in camp at Takia ground in Landikotal on the 13th day, demanding justice for Khalil Jibran Afridi and protection for all citizens.

It may be added here that after the brutal murder of Landikotal press club former president Khalil Jibran on June 18, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan(TTP) issued three threatening pamphlets in Landikotal in which they accepted Khalil Jibran’s murder and threatened other Khyber district and Landikotal journalists to kill.
