TORKHAM: Customs authorities foiled a bid to smuggle Indian medicines and arrested a person, Official said on Tuesday.
Customs official Mujahid Khan said that customs personnel at the Torkham import terminal recovered a cache of Indian medicines from a truck bearing registration number(KAB-24128). He said the truck was loaded with onions. He said the truck had entered Pakistan from Afghanistan via the torkham border. He said the total worth of the seized medicines in the open market was 1.1 million rupees. Custom authorities also seized the truck and onions being imported to Pakistan, he said.
Mujahid said the driver was arrested and a case filed against him.
It may be added here that last week customs authorities also seized arms, ammunition and other contraband items at the Torkham border costing millions of rupees.
