KHYBER: The Green Peaks mission, launched under the umbrella of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa directorate of youth affairs in the remote Shalman area of Landikotal, aims to promote climate resilience and environmental restoration in the region’s fragile mountain ecosystem.

The campaign focuses on restoring degraded landscapes, conserving soil, expanding forest cover and improving ecological balance in Khyber’s mountainous areas. On the first day of the initiative, youth volunteers, under the supervision of environmental experts, carried out scientific seed-sowing in the hills to enhance seed germination and encourage the natural regeneration of native vegetation.

Organizers Farman Shalmani and Salahuddin Shalmani said the Green Peaks mission was more than a tree-planting campaign. They described it as a comprehensive youth-led climate initiative designed to raise environmental awareness and encourage young people to play an active role in protecting natural resources.
“The conservation of mountains and forests is essential for safeguarding future generations against the growing impacts of climate change, Farman Shalmani said. He said achieving the aim required the close cooperation between the government, local communities and young volunteers.
The Directorate of Youth Affairs has urged the public, particularly young people, to actively participate in the campaign and contribute to making Khyber Pakhtunkhwa greener, more climate-resilient, and environmentally sustainable.
