LANDIKOTAL: The first-ever historical Local Bodies session was held at Jirga Hall in Landikotal which was also participated by women-elected members on Thursday.
Tehsil Chairman Shah Khalid Shinwari chaired the meeting which was attended by a large number of youth, general, minority, and women councilors.
Tehsil’s chairman formally opened the session with the recitation of the Holy Quran.
The agenda of the session was distributed among the members in which a number of issues were mentioned to be addressed.
Most of the elected members focused on the issues of high power supply towers that had repeatedly fallen down in Shagay hills, load-shedding, and health issues.
However, the core issue was the developmental funds that had not been released to the local bodies. Most of the speakers showed concern over the developmental funds and said that it was the incompetency of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government that they failed to facilitate them.
Tehsil Chairman Shah Khalid Shinwari brushed out the provincial government and said that none of the local government members knew their authorities so far that could be used for the benefit of their constituencies. He demanded of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to release funds to all members and define their authorities so that they could start working for their constituencies.
He said schools, colleges, health facilities and load shedding, and drinking water were the main problems they want to overcome from it.
He said people voted for them to address their genuine problems and overcome the basic issues. He said if they failed to deliver would severely damage the Local Government’s credibility and reputation.
It may be added that in the first-ever Local Government bodies formal session held in the Landikotal history in which elected women also participated but they did not speak on their issues.
