Contract teachers hired for state schools in Khyber

PAKISTAN: District Education Office of Khyber hired 187 teachers on a pure contract basis to fulfill the of government schools in the district, officials said on Sunday.

Assistant district education officer Haji Wajid Khan Afridi told a meeting of the newly appointed teacher said that government-run schools had regained their trust in the community.
He said around 55000 students enrolled last year in the state schools in district Khyber. He said it was noticed that parents brought their children from private to public schools which meant teachers in public schools honestly performed their duties.

Wajid said they had announced Primary Schoolteacher(PST)posts for nine months duration in which more than 800 candidates appeared for tests and interviews.

He said on the directives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Directer Secondary and Elementary Education Hafiz Muhammad Ibrahim with help of school headteachers conducted tests and interviews last month. He said they hired 187 locals and qualified teachers so that they could provide jobs to deserving candidates.

Wajid said they hired 47 teachers in Jamrud,54 teachers for schools in Landikotal and nine teachers were inducted in Bara tehsil schools in district Khyber.
The official said the government had issued Rs,10.5 million to Parent and Teacher Councils (PTC) in the district to pay the hired teachers their salaries for the coming nine months.

The education official said that each teacher would be paid Rs,25000 faxed salary. He said the government is committed to providing jobs to educated youth in the merged districts to help reduce poverty and joblessness.

Talking to this scribe the recruited teachers said that they were happy when heard about their job. Shams said he was 40 and had done double master’s degrees but failed to get a government job. He said though he got a temporary job as a teacher but feel happy. He said so far he appeared in various competitive exams and interviews for a number of posts in various government departments but he could not get a job as most of the jobs in the current government were being sold. He said that it was a job for only nine months but would help recover him from financial crises.
