PESHAWAR: A high-level consultative jirga on law and order in Bajaur was convened under the leadership of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, bringing together tribal elders and elected public representatives from Bajaur and Mohmand districts.

The jirga was attended by the CM’s Adviser, Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, Senator Noorul Haq Qadri, the Chief Secretary, the Inspector General of Police, relevant commissioners, deputy commissioners, and senior police officials.

During the session, tribal elders emphasized their demand for lasting peace in the region and assured the government of their full cooperation in achieving this goal. Declaring terrorism a common enemy, they reiterated that all segments of society must remain united against it.

On this occasion, the tribal elders presented a set of recommendations to the Chief Minister for restoring peace in Bajaur. The participants categorically stated their opposition to any form of military operation or forced displacement.

They proposed the formation of a broad-based and empowered jirga comprising representatives from both federal and provincial governments, tribal elders, and all relevant stakeholders to facilitate meaningful dialogue with the Afghan government and people.

The attendees praised the revival of traditional jirga mechanisms at the local level and stressed the need to make these consultative forums more purposeful so that their outcomes could benefit other regions as well.
