France grounds plane carrying 300 Indians over suspected ‘human trafficking

TORONTO: A flight carrying over 300 Indian passengers has been halted in France due to alleged “human trafficking concerns,” according to the local civil protection agency.

The Airplane transporting passengers “potentially at risk of human trafficking” ” was apprehended on Thursday after an anonymous tip, as reported by the Paris public prosecutor’s office to AFP.
The investigation is now under the jurisdiction of the national anti-organized crime unit JUNALCO, as stated by prosecutors.
The prefecture in the northeastern department of Marne said the A340, operated by Romanian company Legend Airlines, “remained grounded on the tarmac at Vatry airport following its landing.”
The plane had been due to refuel and was carrying 303 Indian nationals, it said.
According to a source familiar with the case, the Indian passengers might have planned to travel to Central America to attempt illegal entry into the United States or Canada.
