Arms bid foils at Torkham border

TORKHAM: Torkham authorities foiled a bid to smuggle weapons to Afghanistan and arrested the peddlers, officials said on Friday.

Torkham customs spokesman Sohail told Fatavoice that additional collector Zakir Khan, deputy collector Rizwan, assistant collector Zahid Khan, superintendent Yaqoob Khan and inspector Afzal Khan acted upon a suspected picture of the truck taken by the scanner at the Torkham border. He said they stopped and searched the long Afghanistan-bound truck(HRT-11256)at the Torkham border.
He said the truck was loaded with cement bags. He said they recovered 120 pistols and 43500 of its bullets rounds concealed in the truck’s hidden cavities.

Sohail said they arrested the driver identified as Waheed Khan, an Afghan national, and confined the truck. The customs official said they have started the investigation.
