KHYBER: Police have arrested a man allegedly involved in operating fake social media accounts under different names and blackmailing citizens in Landikotal, sources said on Sunday.
The suspect, identified as Zahid, son of Barkat, a resident of Khoghakhel Shinwari, was arrested over allegations of running fake social media accounts and harassing citizens.
According to the FIR registered at Landikotal police station, the suspect allegedly used fake accounts to defame respectable citizens, create and share obscene pictures and fabricated videos and demand money from victims while threatening them.
Police said Shah Fahad, son of Amir Nawaz, had earlier submitted a complaint against the suspects at Landikotal police station, following which an investigation was launched.
During the investigation, police allegedly traced Zahid, described as the alleged ringleader of the fake-account network. He was arrested and shifted to Landikotal police station.
Police said further investigation was underway, while efforts were also being made to identify and arrest other individuals allegedly involved in the network.
