PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Suhail Afridi on Sunday announced that a grand jirga of all tribes residing across Khyber district will be held at Jamrud Football Stadium to discuss the situation arising from the ongoing operation in Tirah Valley.

In a video statement, Afridi said militants began re-establishing themselves after the removal of the elected government of the PTI founder, prompting jirgas at the time, which he said were dismissed by the then Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government as propaganda.

He said decisions taken “behind closed doors” led to a return of insecurity and deepened economic instability, forcing investors and young people to look for opportunities abroad.

Afridi said a province-wide jirga comprising all political parties had unanimously approved a 15-point agenda aimed at finding a collective solution and ensuring lasting peace.

He added that residents were forced to leave their homes during the winter season and announced that the grand jirga would take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Jamrud Football Stadium. He said his government has released 4 billion rupees for the relief and rehabilitation of those affected.
