International Human Rights Day Marked In Khyber

KHYBER: Local administration in collaboration with the District Emergency Operation Centre( DEOC) Khyber on Tuesday observed International Human Rights Day in Landikotal with an engaging event that brought together elders, youth, elected representatives and government officials.

The event highlighted the critical themes of health, polio eradication, essential immunizations, and the promotion of human rights.

Speaking on the occasion communication officer for the polio eradication program in Khyber, Said Afzal Shinwari stressed the link between health and human rights.

“Access to healthcare, including essential immunizations, is a fundamental human right,” he said.

Shinwari urged the community members and civil servants to support polio vaccination efforts without attaching unrelated demands. He announced that the next polio campaign in the district would take place from December 16 to December 22, 2024.

Tehsil Chairman Shah Khalid highlighted the significance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), stating that health was integral to human dignity.

“Ensuring the health and well-being of our communities is a shared responsibility and no child should be left unvaccinated,” he remarked.

Additional assistant commissioner of Landikotal, Rameez Ali Shah, reaffirmed the government’s dedication to safeguarding citizens’ rights, particularly the right to health.
“The fight against polio is a collective mission that requires awareness and action at all levels,” Rameez emphasized.

The event concluded with a unanimous call for collaboration among community members, government institutions and stakeholders to eradicate polio and uphold the principles of human rights as outlined in the UDHR.
The gathering served as a powerful reminder of the importance of health as a cornerstone of human rights and community well-being.
