PESHAWAR: Unknown gunmen shot dead a tribal elder in the Mir Ali locality of North Waziristan, sources said on Friday.
The sources said that the body of another unknown person was also found in the suburbs of Mir Ali, who was brutally tortured and killed. His body was dumped in an abandoned place.
Police in Mir Ali said that local elder Malik Daud Khan, a prominent tribal chief of Muski, a village near Mir Ali, was killed by armed men in the early hours of Friday morning. They said Malik Daud was in a private doctor’s clinic when gunmen intruded into it and sprayed bullets on him. The assassins managed to escape after committing the crime.
The police have registered cases of both incidents and started investigations.
Target killing has been on the rise in North Waziristan, where so far 41 incidents of target killing have taken place in which around 50 political activists, youths, and leaders have been killed since 2018.
While 46 incidents of target killing took place in the past 12 months
In which around 60 local leaders, political workers, and government officials were targeted.
