TORKHAM: The busy Torkham border with Afghanistan was reopened after six days of its closure the other day but on the same day of border opening the scanner at the import terminal went out of order, putting a break once again on the import of goods from Afghanistan, officials said on Sunday.

National Logistic Cell (NLC) spokesman Mushtaq Ahmad told Fata Voice that Torkham import terminal scanner has not been functional for the last two days. He said due to the scanner’s issue, they could not clear a single loaded truck in the past two days.

He said that as the border was reopened, unfortunately, the scanners installed for importing goods created software faults. He claimed that hundreds of trucks carrying imported goods were stranded at the Torkham border due to the scanner malfunction.

An official on the condition of anonymity told Fata Voice that Pakistan gets the amount of Rs,54 million a day from the goods being imported from Afghanistan.

Mushtaq Ahmad said work on repairing the scanner was underway and it could be functional within hours. He said the software of the import scanner is not properly working but could be repaired soon.

It may be added here that National Logistic Cell(NLC) staff was assigned to perform scanning of imported goods at the Torkham border.
