LANDIKOTAL: Residents, without government financial support, constructed the Barani Dam in the Nekikhel area, which would help increase greenery and raise the water table to reduce the drinking water scarcity in the area.
Talking to reporters, Maulana Aqib Darwesh said that they collected a pool of money through a charity from local residents and constructed the Barani dam(a Water reservoir) to store the rainwater for a long time.
He said the dam was built in between the hills wherefrom water flows down in the Nekikhel locality in Landikotal.
He said the idea came when the water table gradually went down and residents faced drinking water scarcity. He added that they can now store millions of gallons of water in the rainwater reservoir.
Maulana Aqib Darwesh urged philanthropists and the government to come forward and build more rain water dams in Landikotal to reduce the water scarcity.
