PESHAWAR: Security and intelligence agencies have raised alarms over possible terror threats in Peshawar, district Khyber and surrounding areas, warning of infiltrations and attack plans by militants reportedly linked to Afghanistan-based terror groups, officials said on Friday.

According to credible sources, a group of 5 to 6 militants affiliated with the FAK group, which is associated with the Hijrat and Mufti Zakariya network, has infiltrated into Maidank locality near the Afghan border in the Jamrud area of Khyber District (KTD). With their arrival, the total number of active militants in the region has reportedly increased to 13–15, the threat report said.

The group is believed to be re-establishing links with Commander Asad Kamran alias Punjabi and Mufti Zakariya/Salman, and is preparing for joint terrorist attacks in District Khyber and Peshawar.

Their plans reportedly include suicide bombings (SB), fire raids, target killings and sniper attacks. Potential targets include the pump house, Frontier Corps and police posts, particularly in Shahgai area in Jamrud, as well as an unidentified target (UI) believed to be located along the Malagori to Warsak Road corridor in Jamrud tehsil.

Sources further revealed that the group has compiled a target list of 23 individuals, with one killing already carried out on August 6. Additional attacks are feared to take place along Warsak Road and adjacent areas.

Intelligence officials have also disclosed the presence of a potential suicide bomber, reportedly a citizen of Azerbaijan, who has been transferred from Bara to Peshawar by ISKP operatives. The bomber was last seen in the Board Bazaar area in Peshawar, though the stay is considered temporary and indicative of broader plans.

Meanwhile, reports confirm the presence of six more FAK militants, including two underage boys, in the Shakranbo area, now aligned with the Salman alias Siddiq group. This has raised the number of militants in that region to an estimated 28–33.

In addition to preparations for armed attacks, local journalists, civil society members, and government employees have already started receiving threats and extortion demands from these militant elements. These intimidation tactics have sparked fear and concern in the region, further highlighting the gravity of the emerging threat.

In light of these developments, security agencies have been instructed to remain on high alert across Khyber district, Peshawar, Matani, Badaber, Inqilab, Urmar, Hassankhel and surrounding areas. Authorities have also been directed to intensify security measures and preemptive counterterrorism efforts to neutralize any potential danger.
