PESHAWAR: Two Pakistan Army personnel, including a senior officer, embraced martyrdom while 11 terrorists were killed during a high-stakes intelligence-based operation (IBO) in South Waziristan’s Sararogha area, the military’s media wing announced on Tuesday.

According to a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was launched following credible intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists linked to the Indian-backed network “Fitna al Khwarij,” known for orchestrating acts of sabotage and violence in the region.

During the intense firefight, security forces effectively engaged and neutralized 11 terrorists, while seven others were critically injured. However, in the exchange of fire, Major Syed Moiz Abbas Shah, 37, and Lance Naik Jibran Ullah were martyred.

Major Shah, a seasoned and highly respected officer, was leading the operation from the front—a hallmark of his distinguished service record. He had earned wide acclaim for his leadership and valour in numerous counterterrorism missions. His sacrifice, alongside that of Lance Naik Jibran, underscores the unwavering resolve of the armed forces in their fight against terrorism.

“A sanitization operation is being carried out to eliminate any remaining elements in the area,” the ISPR said, adding that security forces remain committed to eradicating the menace of terrorism—particularly Indian-sponsored militancy—across the country.

“These sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our national resolve and resilience,” the statement emphasized.

South Waziristan has long been a focal point in Pakistan’s broader counterterrorism efforts. The resurgence of cross-border-backed militant groups in recent months has once again placed the region at the center of military operations aimed at ensuring lasting peace and stability.

The funerals of the martyred soldiers will be held with full military honours, and tributes continue to pour in from across the country for their bravery and sacrifice.
