PESHAWAR: President of the Khyber Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Haji Muhammad Yousaf Afridi, has said that transparency, institutional integrity and constitutional supremacy are non-negotiable, stressing the need to ensure accountability and democratic procedures in the chamber’s affairs.

In a press statement, he said transparency and institutional discipline were essential in matters concerning the Directorate General of Trade Organizations (DGTO). He expressed concern that General Secretary Naqash Ali had not presented the relevant official records to the president despite repeated demands.

Yousaf Afridi said he had consistently called for the production of all relevant records and the holding of elections in accordance with the chamber’s constitution and democratic principles.

He maintained that no institution should be run on the basis of personal preferences or interests, but strictly in accordance with its constitution, the law and principles of transparency.

The chamber president also expressed reservations over the use of the Khyber Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s logo in promotional material for the Second All Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chamber Presidents Conference and Business Excellence Awards, held at the Governor House in Peshawar, saying the logo had been used without prior permission.

He further announced that efforts would be made to relocate the chamber’s office in Hashtnagri, Peshawar, to Khyber district after freeing it from what he described as the control of an illegal occupation group.

Yousaf Afridi vowed to restore the Khyber Chamber to its rightful constitutional and legal position, saying the struggle would continue until transparency, democracy and constitutional supremacy were ensured within the institution.
